0.1: Psychic Pus

This album was my 1st foray into the delights of digital audio recording using computers. Before that I had been confined to using a multitrack machine or paying for expensive studio time. The tracks contain real drums loops and vocal samples and solos by me on the guitar, home made Theremin and synthesizer.

You will hear wild and crazy noises mixed with driving rhythms and vocal or voice samples. You will also experience soft, subtle and melodic sounds to lift the spirit and inspire the mind.

Includes a treat for Dr who fans, a reworking that sticks closely to the original Ron Grainger version with a modern flavour, Dr Who you can dance to! Go on, get the pus out!

Review

It's Friday night...you gotta have some fun tonight, or it ain't worth a f**k.’ So begins the debut album of J Dexter, and fun there is, though not of the very harmless variety. The hour or so of playtime fuses anything from weird birdsong reggae in Turdus Turdus to a brain-dicing hardcore vehicle for the Hindenburg disaster commentary in ‘Get this Shorty’. Musically, J Dexter is not confined to a small space. Eclectic is a word that springs to mind, and, having sprung, is rejected as inadequate. ‘Forgive Me Clara’ is a personal favourite, propelled by a ripped-off bass trajectory from Wild Cherry allied to the most raucous screeches from your analogue nightmares.
