How is James Dexter's music made?
Date posted: 1042 days ago
I have been involved with this kind of music production since 1998 when I set up my 1st home computer/music studio in Charlottesville, Virginia USA.
Music-looper describes the way I like to make music which could also be described as ‘sound collage’ or ‘waveform editing’ or ‘audio mulitracking’ these are purely functional descriptions rather than ways of describing the sounds you will hear on the following pages. There is no MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) involved in the production of my music, it is based on the manipulation of digitally recorded sound files usually played by me on various instruments. For example, I come up with a riff I like on the guitar which I record and then loop using computer software to form a continuous phrase. Then I can add drums from pre recorded sound files, record vocals, glean samples from copyright free sources and build up a multi-tracked cohesive piece of music. Then, I can add effects mix my project and have a finished track.
